Jelani Blackman drops new single 'Not You', and it's HARD.
After the release of his debut EP '1-4' got some well deserved public acknowledgement last year, British musician Jelani Blackman is back with the first instalment of new EP '5-8', which is set to be released later on this year. 'Not You' is a sexy, murky and dark track with a deep, breathy vocal that perfectly matches the bassy production.
This track is one of my favourite releases of the year so far, Jelani has a distinct sound that is strictly his own. His deep, captivating vocals alone are enough to motivate you into doing you to the best of your ability. He has created a song that is not only innovative and fresh, but also totally relevant with a space for it to desperately fill in that mainstream/underground fusion that we are seeing so much of. When I asked him about the influence behind the track he said, “Sometimes knowing who you are and what you want is blurry, all I know is that I’m not you.” Already dying for more from him!
